Solvi finds her feet; Oliver finds his voice

Solvi had her 4 mo checkup this past week and weighed in at 15lbs 5 oz., and 25 inches tall. While that puts her at the 90% for girls it’s a full 2 lbs, 2 inches smaller than Oliver was at her age! She continues to stay well ahead of the curve developmentally: rolling over both ways, rasping, and grabbing things with both hands. For the passed two weeks now she’s also become quite adept at grabbing her feet. Apparently toes are just as fun to suck as thumbs. (Might as well enjoy it while you have the flexibility.) She also continues to develop her leg strength and as long as you set her up, she can support herself while standing by holding onto a object for some time.

Meanwhile Olie’s developments continue on the verbal plain. Last week he grabbed his drum and said, “Hey Mom, here comes the beat!” Beating his drum he proceeded to dance around his room making up songs about dinosaurs. If I applauded too early, mistaking his pause to think as the end of the song, he would correct me. “No, Mom, there’s another line. It’s a long song.” The next morning I had him perform for Chad. We memorized the song. It went like this (… represent pauses to think):
“Apatosaurus was just standing there… not being eaten by anything. Diiiiiinnnooosaurrs! Apatosaurus lifted his big long neck…into the air… and ate a leaf.”
Here’s another great exchange. Olie, one evening, was playing in the bathroom while Chad was doing dishes. Going by Chad with his chair Oliver cautioned, “Dad, watch out! The legs are sticking out. I don’t want them to hit you.”
“Thank you, Olie,” said Chad, “err where are you going with that chair?”
“To the bathtub. I can’t reach.” He replied.
“Oliver, you can’t take the chair into the tub. Leave it outside.” Oliver does and returns to his play. Some time later Chad hears the bathroom door close. Opening it he sees Olie trying to hoist the chair into the tub. “Oliver, I said no chairs in the tub!”
“I know, Dad, that’s why I closed the door!”
