Solvi Standing Tall at 9 months

Solvi has recently passed another important developmental milestone: we are now more worried about her safety than Oliver's! That's because our girl is hell bent on getting vertical. She pulls up on anything - chairs, beds, tables, kitchen drawers, the bath tub, Mom and Dad. And because she's not quite sure how to get down again (although she is getting better), she has to be watched like hawk. She's also taking many more steps while holding on to things, so I imagine it's just a matter of time before she walks. Aaaaah. Hopefully beforehand she will figure out how to actually push up to sit from lying down, rather than her current method of pulling up to sit, which results in a very adorable knees tucked under bum position, but is less stable. And then there's mastering a proper crawl. (Didn't I say that that was next in my last post? Hmmm. We'll see.)

Just to show she is her Mama's girl, Solvi is a big dancer. In dance class yesterday she pulled up on me and started rocking side to side lifting one foot and then the other. She also pumps her legs whenever she hears music and has taken to gracefully waving her head around, resulting in a new nickname: Stevie (as in Wonder). Oh and she's also started nodding "yes."

At her 9 month appt this week, Solvi weighed in at 20lbs, 28.5 inches. That's 75% all around. Other milestones include the appearance of more teeth. All four front teeth on top have started to push through. Ouch!
Best yet, Solvi now has several "games" she likes to play, her favorite is push mommy's face away with her hand. Every time I turn back Solvi laughs gleefully.

Olie at the MET.
A recent visit from Gramma Birds inspired a trip to the MET. Yes, we took Olie to an art museum! (Actually this was his 2nd successful visit to an art mus. The first was to see Calder's toys and animal sculptures at the Whitney. He did really well!) So at the MET Olie love the Egyptian exhibit - lots of animals, as well as the knights, and stained glass windows which looked like beautiful blue jewels.
Oh, and Olie did #2 in the potty for the first time today! He usually hides "for privacy," but today Kassy actually got him to use the pot. Let's hope we get more frequent repeats! (Sign that you're growing up: when your Mom actually hesitates before posting potentially embarrassing updates like these. Unfortunately it didn't stop her.)
