Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Turkey Day from the local residents of Lewis St. in Newton (human and poultry). By far our most entertaining neighbors, turkeys roam the streets often in groups of 3 to 18! Recently the males have been in full regalia, strutting their stuff in time for the holiday. Unfortunately this has left Oliver a little conflicted about indulging in the Thanksgiving feast. This morning as I prepped the bird, Oliver eyed it suspiciously. "Gross!" he said. Let's see if he eats it. One thing I have no doubt that Solvi will eat: pumpkin pie or "punky pie" as she says it. A mini custard I made last night was literally gobbled gobbled. I've never seen her eat such big bites!

Outsmarted...

So my kids are only 4 and 18 months old, but already they're showing me how dense I can be.

Here are a few shining examples:

In October, Stephanie gave Oliver a pasta spoon that was just a handle with T-Rex shaped head complete with sharp (pasta scooping) teeth. Oliver named in Rana (as in TyRANAsaurus Rex). In an attempt to show off just how smart my son is, I asked the following question: “Olie is Rana a biped or a quadraped?”
Olie: “Niether, Mom, he doesn’t have any feet!”
Can you hear the implicit "DUUHHH!"

That same visit to the Cape, this time bragging about Solvi, I asked while showing her a pig in a magazine, “Solvi what does the pig say?” “Honk zee, honk zee,” she replied. Yes, indeed, upon closer inspection, the pig was sleeping!

Then later in the month while at the Museum of Natural History in New York (we went there 2 of the 3 days), Oliver said: “Mom! I just spied megalocerus on the cladogram!” Say, what?!

And then: Oliver overheard something on the radio about churches and asked Chad what a church is. Chad replied that it was a building that people go to pray in. Oliver replied, "I don't like pray." Naturally this prompted Chad to inquire why. “Because p-r-e-y is what predators kill!”

Ohh and I guess I should put some actual Halloween photos up.

Olie turns 4!
