Oops I forgot one...
(Mommy brain here. Before embarking on my latest post I checked back on Olieland and realized I forgot to post something I wrote in June! Zoiks! Apologies, better late than never.)
Update from Mid-June...
Favorite Olieisms of the month:
“Mommy you don’t need to change my diaper because the poopies are fossilized.”
“Mommeeee I broke my fire truck. It was the WORST nightmare!”
“Mommy come look at my dinosaur collection. All the bad dinosaurs are extinct.” I looked. All the carnivores were lying down while the herbivores were standing. “What about stegosaurus,” I asked, “he’s a plant eater.” “Oh he and triceratops were playing, but stegosaurus forgot to use his words.”
“Dad, when humans go extinct, that’s evolution.”
Olie is still also making up words. Yesterday he called something a “bango, rooster, plough truck,” and then asked, “was that a mouthful?!”
Oliver had his first nightmare while on Cape Cod over Memorial Day wknd. I woke to hear him calling my name. When I got down stairs to his bed he sobbed, “Mommy, I don’t want to become extinct!” I asked if he had a bad dream. “Yes, I dreamed that an asteroid came and made humans extinct…. Humans go on and on and on, right.” “Yes, Honey.” I assured him that humans are smarter than dinosaurs and have telescopes so we could tell if an asteroid came and could destroy it before it hit the earth. He thought for a moment and said, “Mommy, how do dinosaurs play with their friends?” So I explain about heaven....
As for Solvi, now that she’s walking Solvi no longer bounces whenever she hears music. Now she stomps her feet. In dance class she also learned her first choreography. While holding my hands we both go “side to side” from one foot to the other while singing “London Bridge.” (This was also Olie’s first dance.) Also in dance class last week we were all holding hands in circle dance. All the older kids were kicking away per the teachers instructions. Not to be left out also kept Solvi carefully lifting just one leg into the air – her first kick.
Solvi is so desperate to do what others are doing she often repeats actions or signs after only seeing them ounce. Thus, this wknd, she surprised me by immediately following my knock on Gramma Sylvia’s door with a small rap of her own. Solvi’s signs now include (among others): please, egg, airplane, gorilla, crab, tree, more, thank you, squirrel, giraffe, elephant, bear, apple, water, hippo, hat, shoe, and eat (this last one may be her most used sign. Every morning she wakes up and signs “eat.”)
The other day I heard hear making “sssssss” noises and looked down to find her playing with Olie’s snake Hissy. She also clearly says, “Da, da” now, and means Chad. Mama is still pending. Her favorite words are now very clearly annunciated: "Hi!" and "Bye, bye." They're always delivered with an enthusiastic wave.
